True expression of love is usually bounded by realities of human world. The journey to the true love is filled with joys and sorrows. The secret to its success is through nurturing the former and overcoming the latter, similar to how cactus must find happiness facing the boredom in the dessert and discover the strength to deal with the adversities. The process may be full of hurts and wounds but the soul is crystal clear and the determination to the colourful dream is as hard as the gem. An artist or a creative artwork, like any splendid story or the formation of a new culture, is the result of endurance and perseverance which overcomes today’s harsh reality in the journey to seek true love.

Love is a universal language and the foundation of any happy union. This year's theme "a new journey" is inspired by the concept of marriage as marriage is cross-cultural, and the journey for any new union will always bring fond memories of the past and excitement for the future.

Continuing the direction of fusion-focus artistic expression from the past festivals, TELUS TaiwanFest 2009 is to explore the evolution of the concept of marriage from multi-cultural and cross-generational perspectives on tradition, value and ideology. Showcases in performing, visual and culinary arts surrounded by the melody of "Spring Breeze", the most popular and famous Taiwanese folk song on earth, will reveal the desires of young men and women to seek the perfect companion for the new journey in life.
